Modular
The use of volumetric modular construction is rapidly expanding throughout the world. The rising popularity of this modern construction method is attributed to aligning with key client drivers; streamlined construction programmes, greater QA of final construction and Health & Safety benefits.
Barrett Mahony have specialized in volumetric modular construction since 2005 and have overseen the structural engineering of over 35 modular buildings including some of the world’s most exciting projects in the off-site construction sector.
While volumetric modules have been widely used for residential buildings of four to eight storeys, we have helped drive the development of this construction method to deliver medium to high rise buildings over the past decade. Volumetric modular construction has now reached the height of skyscrapers. This has been achieved by extensive R&D design work carried out by Barrett Mahony, in partnership with leading Universities.
Our projects have twice broken the record for the world’s tallest modular building; the 44 storey Ten Degrees in Croydon, London (2021) and the neighbouring 49 Storey College Road project (2023) with the former winning the award for Structural Engineering Excellence at the 2022 2022 Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) Annual Awards in Chicago.
